Much of the Netherlands will be hit by extremely high temperatures again on Wednesday, with the KNMI weather bureau issuing an amber alert for the southeast and a yellow warning elsewhere.
Wednesday morning will remain sunny and largely dry, though the northwest may see the odd thunderstorm. Winds will be light, moderate along the northern coast from the north.
By the afternoon, cloud cover is set to increase, bringing rain and thunderstorms in some areas. The eastern half of the country faces the risk of heavy showers with strong gusts, hail and intense rainfall in a short period, the KNMI said.
Maximum temperatures will range from 25° along the west coast by the afternoon to a sweltering 37° locally in the southeast.
This evening will see partly to heavily overcast skies with the chance of further rain or thunderstorms, before gradually drying out from the west. Overnight, most regions will stay dry with minimum temperatures around 16°.
Thursday morning is expected to be mostly dry with sunny intervals. Winds will come from the west to northwest and the afternoon will be bright and dry, with highs ranging from 20° in the northwest to around 25° in the south.
By Thursday evening, the fine weather will continue with plenty of sunshine and light to moderate northwesterly winds.
Looking ahead, the KNMI forecasts mainly dry and fairly sunny conditions with temperatures near seasonal averages for the coming days.
From Sunday onwards, more unsettled weather is expected, with occasional rain or showers, stronger winds, and temperatures falling below average.
