The Dutch state pension (AOW) will increase to €1,612.44 gross per month for single pensioners from July 1, a rise of some €30, according to social insurance bank SVB.

For couples, the pension will go up to €1,103.97 each, before tax.

The increase is linked to the minimum wage, which will rise to €14.40 per hour from July. Single pensioners receive 70% of the minimum wage, while couples receive 50% each because they are expected to share living costs.

To qualify for a full state pension, individuals must have lived in the Netherlands for 50 uninterrupted years. The current retirement age is 67, so someone who moved to the country at the age of 27 would only qualify for 40% of the full state pension.
