A farmer from Eerbeek got seriously hurt on Sunday evening after a cow fell on top of him and couldn’t get up again, leaving the man trapped. Firefighters had to come rescue the man before paramedics rushed him to a hospital.
The emergency services received the call reporting the strange accident at 8:06 p.m. The fire brigade, two ambulances, and a trauma team by helicopter were dispatched. The helicopter was canceled before it arrived.
How exactly the farmer ended up under the cow is unclear. It was a strange call for the fire department, a spokesperson told RTL Nieuws. Typically, the fire brigade is called out to rescue animals that have fallen into pits, not to rescue their owners from under them.
“You have to imagine such a cow weighs an average of 600 kilograms,” the spokesperson said. “The fire brigade eventually managed to get the farmer from under the cow. The farmer was then transported to the hospital.”
The spokesperson could not say with certainty what happened to the cow. “I suspect that the cow was put back on its feet.”
