Two teenagers were killed and three others injured in a single-car crash on the Noordermeerweg between Rutten and Lemmer early Saturday morning, according to police in Flevoland. All five victims are 18 or 19 years old and residents of Urk, according to NOS.
The accident occurred near the provincial border between Friesland and Flevoland. Emergency responders from both provinces, including police, fire departments, and ambulances, were dispatched to the scene. Two trauma helicopters were also deployed.
The car left the road in a one-vehicle crash, police said. The extent of the injuries to the three surviving victims has not been disclosed.
The Noordermeerweg was closed to traffic to allow emergency services access and to facilitate police investigation. Authorities are still examining the cause of the crash.
The incident was confirmed by Flevoland police on X, formally Twitter, which reported multiple casualties and the full road closure.
