The Dutch spent €15.3 billion on holidays between May and September last year, averaging just under €1,500 per person, or €77 per day, new calculations by national statistics agency CBS show.
In 2021, the average daily spend was almost €20 lower, CBS said.
Some 55% of holidaymakers travelled abroad, with France again topping the list of destinations. The Dutch took around 2.1 million holidays in France, followed by 1.8 million in Germany and 1.3 million in Spain. Belgium and Italy complete the top five.
Over the whole of 2024, however, Germany was the most popular country to visit, ahead of France.
Motoring organisation ANWB said on Thursday that fewer Dutch people are going abroad this year.
Climate change has also prompted some to rethink their plans, avoiding Mediterranean heat and wildfires in favour of cooler destinations.
