The suspended match between Dutch tennis play player Botic van de Zandschulp against Davidovich Fokina at Wimbledon will not go ahead before 1.30 pm (Dutch time) on Thursday, the organisers have said.

The match was broken off yesterday because it got too dark to play. Van de Zandschulp survived a match point but is behind 2-1 in sets.

Van de Zandschulp’s opening match on Monday, against Matteo Arnaldi, was also broken off because adverse weather conditions, prompting protests from the player. That game was finished the following Tuesday, ending in a victory for Van de Zandschulp.

Van de Zandschulp also questioned Wednesday’s decision. “Why does this keep happening to me?’ broadcaster NOS quoted him as saying. “I played on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and now I’m playing on Thursday as well. I’m the only one here to play every single day,” he said.

If Van de Zandschulp wins Thursday’s match, he will be playing on Friday as well.

Zandschulp played Fokina two years ago on Wimbledon, losing in four sets.
