Man, 24, arrested after fatal hit-and-run in Hattem

A 24-year-old man from Heerde has been taken into custody in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 33-year-old pedestrian from Hattem, NOS reports.

The incident occurred in Hattem at around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday. According to police, the victim was walking in his hometown when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver did not stop and fled the scene.

Following the collision, authorities issued a public call for help in locating a damaged Volkswagen believed to have been involved. Police said the appeal generated “a large number of tips.” Based on the information received, investigators believe they have now identified the vehicle in question, which led to the arrest of the 24-year-old suspect on Sunday.

Earlier in the investigation, police also detained two other men, both from Hattem, aged 23 and 26, for possible involvement in the deadly collision. Their exact roles remain unclear.
